D&D 5e - fanmade acquatic races - Merfolk

To not be confused with the same creature from the Planeshift: Ixalan free supplement (which, I understand, comes from a Magic: the Gathering's setting, as Ravnica), this fanmade race covers the D&D Merfolk. And I like it a lot, mainly for its simplicity. Merfolk are peaceful and here's something to keep in mind: they like the way they are.

So, what's the best class option for a Merfolk? Stat-wise, all charisma casters: Bards, Sorcerers and Warlocks. I find also very interesting dexterity-based Paladins (Oath of the Ancients, yes), Fighters (can you imagine a Merfolk Samurai?) or Barbarians (Storm Herald or Totem Warrior). The Rogue makes good uses of those stats and features, but the rest of the classes (Clerics, Druids, Monks, Rangers and Wizards) may require a more thoughtful build.

They may be not powerful, but the Merfolk is very adaptable. Remember, this is just a fanmade race.

Be kind to each other and to yourselves.
